Our history

Pioneer in a dynamic market
Following two gruelling decades of reconstruction and development, the 1960s saw the German economy re-join the ranks of the world's elite, with multinationals such as Siemens, Daimler-Benz and Mannesmann increasingly opening up to international investors.

The financial communications experts at Charles Barker Ltd. in London soon realised that it was high time for German businesses to close the gap with the then leading economic powerhouses of the United States and United Kingdom, especially with regard to capital market practices. Together with local joint venture partners, they founded Charles Barker GmbH in 1969, headquartered in Frankfurt am Main.

A leading financial communications consultancy – for over 40 years
As a pioneer in a rapidly growing market, Charles Barker soon became a leading financial communications consultancy in Germany. As a separate legal and commercial entity from the UK firm from the 1980s onwards, our founders developed the consulting standards for the then young industry in Germany: Charles Barker established the value-oriented
Anglo-Saxon outlook in financial communications, thereby ensuring sustainable competitive advantage in Europe's financial heartland around Frankfurt.

In accordance with its mission statement "We Package Information to Move Capital" the content of the communications work was geared from the very outset to the aim of channelling capital from institutional and private investors into successful businesses, promising investments and competent asset managers. While (financial) advertising, in addition to communications strategy consulting, provided the focus of our work in the initial years after the founding of our firm capacity in corporate publishing and public relations was soon added to the range of expertise on offer.

Experience and focus
After the turn of the millennium we saw – in what meanwhile had become a mature market – a refocusing of our activities on strategic communications consulting under the umbrella of Charles Barker Corporate Communications GmbH, as the next generation took over: since then we have been successfully focusing entirely on strategic communications consulting and in-house implementation in the area of public and media relations. We continue to leverage our strategic know-how in the area of financial advertising, with online media, and in corporate publishing for the benefit of our clients by designing and coordinating projects and campaigns for them which extend far beyond our current core business.
